With ViA Duo Reimagine TV and Radio Broadcasting
Tieline’s New ViA Duo Codec Delivers Versatile New IP Streaming, Commentary and Off-Tube Broadcasting Solutions.
For decades, traditional audio codecs have delivered rock solid encoded audio over a diverse range of networks, including copper PSTN/POTS or ISDN lines, and in recent years, a suite of different wired and wireless IP networks.
The introduction of newer AoIP protocols has enabled radio and television broadcasters to benefit from innovative workflows. Protocols including AES67, ST 2110-30, RAVENNA, Dante, Livewire, and NMOS present new possibilities for codecs such as the ViA Duo, which seamlessly aligns with current REMI (Remote Integration) production models.
ViA Duo represents the next evolution of trusted ViA technology that is purpose-built to bridge the gap between field reporting and live commentary. Designed for reporters, commentators and remote production crews, it serves as an ultra-portable broadcast platform functioning as an IP codec, AoIP commentary node, or off-tube production solution supporting both audio and video workflows.
ViA Duo is Revolutionary
ViA Duo stands out as a groundbreaking solution because broadcasters previously needed separate equipment for outside broadcasts, live sporting event commentary, or audio/video streaming for off-tube production. It streamlines these functions into an all-in-one solution that consolidates portable outside broadcasting, commentary, and off-tube broadcasting capabilities in a single, lightweight package. This consolidation not only offers substantial cost savings, but also enhances operational flexibility.
Codec Operation

The ViA Duo is an ultra-portable IP codec for reporters, sports commentators and radio announcers, as well as broadcasters working from home. It fits comfortably in the palm of your hand and features 2 XLR mic/line or AES3 inputs and headphone outputs. Additional AoIP inputs and outputs are also available. It can send bidirectional stereo or dual mono audio from any remote location to the studio using cellular, Wi-Fi or Ethernet connections.
Equipped with dedicated cue and talkback controls, it integrates seamlessly with IP communication systems to enable mix-minus IFBs and full duplex communications across IP or AoIP networks. The touch screen allows users to customize cue and talkback matrices, routing audio locally to headphones or outputs, or directly to the studio.
Stadium TV Commentary
The ViA Duo accommodates a variety of broadcast commentary requirements for radio and television using RAVENNA, Dante, AES67, ST2110-10, Livewire, and NMOS. Within AoIP environments, it operates as a node either in the stadium commentary booth, or on the sideline as needed. It can connect directly over a LAN to a remote truck at the venue, or over a WAN in a REMI use case back to a studio-based mixing console.

Off-Tube Commentary Solutions
ViA Duo supports off-tube commentary so a commentary team can receive a live game day feed and call live from anywhere in the world – even from the comfort of their own home. It’s equally effective at stadiums by allowing the reception of return video feeds with stats and other live or recorded content from the studio. Paired with a real-time mix-minus comms feed, your commentary team will get the full picture.

Simple Deployment and Remote Control
Deployment of ViA Duo is straightforward: just power up, connect to the network, and start broadcasting. There’s no requirement for external mixers, outboard gear, processors or playback devices. All essential tools including audio processing, recording, and playback are integrated into a single compact unit.
Reliability is enhanced through multiple layers of redundancy with fully automated backup, courtesy of Tieline’s SmartStream PLUS hitless packet switching over multiple network interfaces. This technology has set a high standard for resilient IP streaming over the public internet. Unlike some other manufacturers, hitless packet switching is included free. In addition, Fuse-IP data aggregation bonds any of the IP interfaces to increase bandwidth capacity.
Additionally, the unit can be remotely controlled via the built-in Toolbox Web-GUI or the optional Cloud Codec Controller, which is designed for comprehensive network management and control of all Tieline IP codecs.
