Gateway Codec Family Delivers IP Solutions

Discover How the Gateway Codec Family Delivers IP Solutions for Broadcasters

The Tieline Gateway family of DSP-based audio codecs delivers cutting edge functionality within a compact rackmount footprint, combined with simple connectivity and flexible remote control features. Whether your network needs a rackmount codec for remotes, STLs, audio distribution or data center environments, there is a codec to suit your requirements. In addition, with the FCC plan to auction 160 MHz of Upper C-Band spectrum in 2027, if you rely on satellite links for content delivery or STLs, now is a great time to consider alternative solutions that are rock solid and cost effective.

32 Channel Gateway Nexus High Density Codec

Gateway Nexus, the newest addition to the Gateway codec family, is a 32-channel, high-density AoIP codec delivering deterministic, low-latency multichannel audio transport using dedicated and reliable hardware. As the industry shifts towards centralized and remote production models for live broadcast applications, its DSP-based platform allows broadcasters to upscale infrastructure efficiently.

Gateway Nexus can be deployed in hosted and data center environments and is engineered to natively support AES67, ST2110-30, ST2022-7, RAVENNA, Livewire, NMOS IS-04, IS-05 and IS-07, and Ember+. An optional Dante card is also available. It stands out as a powerful and cost-effective alternative to virtualized codec and server-based systems, providing seamless integration into IP-based audio networks

The Nexus is purpose-built for hosted data center deployments, delivering 32 channels of full-duplex high-density AoIP audio. Unlike virtual codec solutions, it provides fully deterministic performance that is predictable, low-latency, and fully hardware-based, making it ideal for modern broadcast networks.

The Gateway Nexus will expand your encoding capabilities by providing a centralized hub for all your AoIP streams. It delivers high channel density and low latency connections for live programming and communications applications. Other popular applications include network program syndication, managing multiple remotes, distributing STL signals, multiple SIP trunks and inter-studio links.

16 Channel Gateway Delivers Reliability and Flexibility

Gateway 16 channel codec

The Gateway reliably transports up to 16 IP audio channels across the public internet and any QoS-enabled IP network, including T1 and T3 connections and private WANs with MPLS. It seamlessly integrates with AoIP studios at the broadcast plant and is ideal for:

  • Audio contribution and managing multiple incoming remotes
  • Studio-to-Transmitter Links
  • Network syndication of programming
  • Multi-channel inter-studio links to remote studios
  • Immersive audio applications
Gateway supports multiple IP protocols

The codec includes native support for AES67, ST 2110-30, ST 2022-7, Livewire, RAVENNA, Ember+ and NMOS and integrates seamlessly into AoIP infrastructure at the broadcast plant. An optional WheatNet- IP or Dante card can be purchased for seamless operation using these protocols. By supporting multiple AoIP protocols, the Gateway provides simple discovery and routing of AoIP audio streams and facilitates ingesting or transmitting SIP trunks for communications and IFB feeds.

The Gateway also stands out as an edge network device that acts as a flexible and cost-effective media converter. It accepts analog, AES3 or AoIP audio sources and can natively convert these to AES67/ST 2110-30, Livewire, and RAVENNA compliant audio streams, with optional WheatNet-IP or Dante capability. The codec also connects with SIP devices that are EBU N/ACIP Tech 3326, 3347 and 3368 compliant.

Tieline’s Gateway 4 is a DSP-based 1RU IP codec for live remote broadcasting applications, as well as STL or SSL links. The Gateway 4 also includes support for AES67, ST 2110-30, ST 2022-7, RAVENNA, NMOS, Ember+, AES3 and analog I/O as standard, and an optional WheatNet-IP or Dante card.

It supports two stereo connections, or one stereo and two mono connections, or up to 4 mono connections. Multi-unicasting, multicasting, SmartStream PLUS redundant streaming and Fuse-IP data aggregation technologies are included.

For larger networks, the Gateway 4 is ideal for transmitter sites, remote trucks or rack-mounted remote kits. For affiliates and smaller stations it can transport 2 stereo studio-to-studio links (STLs), or an STL plus a remote broadcast connection option.

Gateway Platform Delivers IP Streaming Benefits

The entire Gateway codec family leverages a huge range of comprehensive encoding options, plus built-in input processing, which includes a compressor, noise gate, expander and EQ on all inputs. Additionally, all units support SNMP and include the ToolBox HTML5 web-GUI and optional Cloud Codec Controller software, which provide real-time monitoring and remote management of connections. The Cloud Codec Controller is a network management tool allowing engineers to remote control all codec functions from anywhere with an internet connection.

Rock Solid Connections

Tieline specializes in high quality and low latency audio transport over IP with adaptive jitter management and error resilient audio streaming, as well as FEC and bandwidth aggregation with Fuse-IP network bonding technology. Tieline’s renowned SmartStream PLUS redundant streaming delivers hitless packet switching by sending up to 4 identical packet streams for each connection. Packets are realigned at the receiving codec to maintain error-free streaming and minimise latency over internet connections.
