Tieline today announced the release of the Merlin PLUS codec with WheatNet-IP. This new audio codec is designed to facilitate up to 6 simultaneous IP remotes and integrate them seamlessly into the WheatNet-IP Environment.

“The genesis of Merlin PLUS with WheatNET-IP occurred during the 2013 NAB Show in Las Vegas,” said Charlie Gawley, VP Sales APAC & EMEA. “A number of American and European customers saw the Genie Distribution codec with WheatNet-IP and requested we design a WheatNet capable Merlin PLUS codec. As a result, Tieline has collaborated with Wheatstone Corporation to release the first IP codec capable of multiple simultaneous remotes and designed for seamless integration with the WheatNet-IP Environment.”

The codec’s purpose-built rear panel provides a WheatNet-IP LAN interface for connecting to the WheatNet-IP Environment. Wheatstone Corporation’s NAVIGATOR software lets you customize sources and destinations as you would with other system components.

Two additional Ethernet ports allow IP streaming between the studio and 6 simultaneous bidirectional mono remotes, or two simultaneous stereo or mono remotes with separate IFB communication channels. This unique multiple remote capability is delivered by a single 19 inch x 1RU box, saving money on codec hardware costs and greatly reducing studio rack space requirements for broadcasters.

IP remotes are typically performed over the public internet between a studio based Merlin PLUS with WheatNet-IP and remote Tieline IP codecs or smartphones running the Report-IT Enterprise application.

“Tieline has experienced strong demand for Merlin PLUS since its release in March and we anticipate additional strong demand from Wheatstone customers seeking the WheatNet-IP version of this codec,” said Gawley.
